AFC U14s 1,

Brixham AFC U14s 1

A large crowd gathered at Longcross last Friday evening as the young Darts took on local rivals Brixham, who put up a real fight to share the spoils.

The first half saw the home side camped in the Brixham half as they dominated proceedings, but couldn't find the goal their play deserved.

Cameron Webb looked to have broken the deadlock midway through the half but his lob landed inches wide of the post following a great free kick from Liam Wadeson.

Tom Matthews then had two shots saved by the Brixham 'keeper as the Darts continued to be frustrated.

The opening goal eventually arrived four minutes before the interval when Webb swung over a corner which was slammed home by Solley Metchette following a goalmouth scramble.

The second period was a much more even affair, with Brixham looking to find a way back into the game.

10 minutes in Darts 'keeper Aaron Morrison was called into action for the first time, tipping a rasping drive round the post.

Dartmouth then had two brilliant chances to kill the game off when Webb was sent clear, but on both occasions his shots at goal lacked conviction.

The visitors then pushed on and the equaliser arrived seven minutes from time, Darts failing to deal with a corner.

The goal seemed to wake the hosts up and in the final minute Rodwell-Lynn found Matthews with a clever pass, sending the big striker in on goal.

Unfortunately, with just the 'keeper to beat his shot flew wide.

The draw keeps Dartmouth third in the table, but dents their promotion hopes.

This Sunday they travel to league leaders Ipplepen for a 5pm kick-off and all support is welcome. The match ball was kindly donated by David Clarke of DTR Builders.
