Dartmouth Golf and Country Club
With the weather slowly improving the Dartmouth course is drying out and conditions are getting better.
Mark Sanford could be one to watch in the future. He showed what he is capable of with his second shot on the par 5 8th.
He sent his 5 iron 208 yds to within 20 ft of the pin for an eagle putt, celebrations were cut short as he four putted for a bogey 6. No doubt he's headed for the practice putting green.
Dave Nichols and Paul Marels should celebrate too as Dave won the back nine with 23 points and Mr Marels won the front nine with 21 and overall with an impressive 39 playing off 2.
Next time out he will be playing off his sons handicap – scratch.
The Saturday circus was depleted in numbers as a lot of the players are in Bude for a weekend bash with Mark Lord.
Nevertheless, seven golfers took to the fairways in flat calm conditions and all enjoyed the milder tempreture.
Dean Raspin had a good knock on the front and won with 18.
John Garner had a game of two halves. He only scored 12 points on the front but, after much ranting and raving, he managed to calm himself down under the guidance of his partner Geoff Penhale to birdie the 10th and score 22 on the back to win that and share the overall with John Wood and Dean Raspin on 34.
Bob Wotton got the only 2 keeping his prize wins slowly ticking over.
Another to watch is Dave Boyce. In an independent 4 ball he played with Austin Francis Dave Birss and Paul Brown.
They all played well to score 36, but Dave left them in his wake with 41 points off a handicap of 12.
Surely single figures await.
