Petroc division one

Dartmouth 1,

Ashmoor 3

The last time these two teams met, Ashmoor walloped Dartmouth by six goals.

Last weekend, when luck was dished out Dartmouth was at the back of the queue.

Dartmouth put out a good side, Lisa Ansell coming back from a bout of flu, Sam Webb back from her extended break plus Ellie Langman and Lauren Roger-Jones making their home comeback.

Dartmouth once again had the lion’s share of ball and with four minutes after the push back Mandy Servan showed her intent and went inches from scoring.

Dartmouth played much of the first 10 minutes in Ashmoor’s half and thought they’d scored, but Sarah Barrett’s effort with 12 minutes gone was disallowed, the ball inches from the backboard and too high for the umpire to award the goal.

Two minutes later Lisa Ansell, along with Alix Vincent, went close, but against the run of play, Ashmoor scored from a short corner.

Dartmouth refused to drop their performance and Mandy Servan went close again before the half-time whistle, but the score remained 1-0 and an encouraging half-time talk from coach Matt Putt and Lisa Ansell gave Dartmouth the incentive to come out of the blocks and hit the ground running for the next 35 minutes.

Dartmouth pushed up into Asmoor’s half from the whistle, but eight minutes into the second half Ashmoor scored their second. Dartmouth, still not deterred by the two goals, kept pressing for the elusive goal. Freya Bradley thought that she got herself on the score sheet, but the ball just went wide. Three minutes after the Ashmoor goal Dartmouth got their just reward. Lisa Ansell took a short corner, slid the ball on to Sarah Barrett’s stick and this time Red Seven cleared the Ashmoor defence and the ‘keeper and got within touching distance of Ashmoor at 2-1. Dartmouth kept pressing, Ellie Malley played her part in keeping the score down but with just six minutes to go Ashmoor scored again and Dartmouth were done.

Sarah Barrett received player of the match, sponsored by Stoke Lodge, and Mandy (mouse) Servan’s dad, Brian Smalley, kindly sponsored the match. Dartmouth Hockey Club wish him the best after his ongoing illness.

Dartmouth travel to Exeter this Saturday to take on Isca 4 with a 10am push back. This will be another test for Dartmouth and rest assured the Dartmouth ladies will give it their all and hopefully be at the front of the queue when the luck’s dished out.
