Petroc division one
Dartmouth 0,
Dart seconds 3
Dartmouth were without four key players and only had 10 players available in total, but they gave it everything.
Players like Darcey Wall, Sarah Barrett, Becca Squires, Hannah Pillar and Lisa Hunt played out of their skin, with Darcey taking control of the back line, ably assisted by Julie Pillar.
Sarah took control of the midfield and Lisa heading the attack.
Dartmouth went for the jugular right from the start. You wouldn’t think that Dartmouth were a player short as Lisa Hunt, Sarah Barrett and Hannah Pillar all went close in the first 15 minutes.
Dartmouth gave it their all and with just ten minutes gone Sarah Barrett received a verbal warning from the umpire, stating her stick was for hockey and not to be used as an axe.
Two minutes later the umpire gave a green card to Hannah Pillar for a stick tangle.
From then on Dart put together some attacks and stemmed the Dartmouth attack, but with all their trying both teams went into half time scoreless.
With the second half under way Dartmouth came out all guns blazing once more.
Dart soaked up the pressure for the first 10 minutes and then a slick counter-attack saw them score with 20 minutes of the second half gone.
From then on Dartmouth had to gamble. Freya Bradley pushed up front, with Lauren Rogers helping out on the right along with Lucy Pillar.
However, disaster struck on the 25th minute when Becca Squires received a green card for a shoulder barge and within 12 seconds of Becca coming off Dart scored again.
Dartmouth were still not done yet and with a brilliant display of hockey Lucy Pillar came within a whisker of getting Dartmouth back into the game, the ball just going wide of the far post.
To add insult to injury, Dart scored on the stroke of full time and the game ended 3-0 in Dart’s favour.
After the game, Steve and Juliet Freeman of The Old Inn served both teams some much-needed sustenance. The match was kindly sponsored by Chris and Liz Mosely from the Crab and Bucket.
The axe-wielding Sarah Barrett received player of the match for her non-stop running and determination to win the game and keep the front two supplied with some mouth-watering passes.
Dartmouth have a week off next week, which will give the Dartmouth ladies a chance to regroup and recover from some injuries.
