Dartmouth Golf Club Andy Birss has been a busy man of late; regatta is always manic for landlords, taking orders for tons of beer, working long hours and entertaining the masses writes John Garner. It's a relief when it's over and all look forward to getting back to golf as was Andy. We also know what golf can do to your mind if your not relaxed. As he started out, all was well, slowly but surely though things went downhill and by the eighth it was quite obvious he'd had enough as he was seen attempting to take a bunker shot with one arm while his phone was held between his shoulder and right cheek. After three attempts he felt that manikin moment coming on picked up his ball and put it in his pocket; too much amber nectar I fancy... Quite the opposite for Simon Davis, everything went well for him and he won with a very good round of 41. Close on his heels on countback was Richard Watts, 41, third Dave Nichols 40, fourth Rob Knight 39 and fifth John Wood 35. There were four twos, Simon Davis on the fifth, John Garner on the third and seventh, and John Wood on the 18th. Simon's handicap is cut from 25 to 24, Richard 24 to 23, Dave 15 to 14. On Saturday the last round of the Gold Grand Prix was played. There were four players in contention, Solley Metchette, Dave Nicholls, Clive Westwood and John Wood. Conditions were perfect on the day, the course was made a little easier to play as there was no wind at all and boy did Clive Westwood take advantage of that. He scored a very impressive 40 points, winning on the day, but the best average score over four rounds and so the Gold Grand Prix champion is Solley Metchette. Solley was presented the trophy by club captain and very chuffed Dad Ian Metchette. The official results on the day were as follows: first Clive Westwood 40, second Solley Metchette 37, third Paul Humphries 35, fourth Joe Nicholls 33 and fifth Mario Aresti 32. Sam Knight had a two on the third, as did Clive, but Ian had two, one on the seventh and one on the 18th. Handicap changes were Westwood down from 9 to 7, S Metchette from 19 to 17 and Nicholls from 15 to 14.
