At last the weather has settled down and allowed the players to enjoy the game.
There were some varying incidents that occurred during the day for the midweek stableford.
Martin Howlett didn't start out well, having blobbed the first two holes; however, he then birdied the third and parred the fourth with two shots which settled him down and sent him on his way to a good round.
Andy Birss, polite as ever, asked if was alright to come in from the edge of the green; he promptly bladed his shot across the green and had to ask the same question. This time he made it on to the green, but then three putted to complete his misery!
The highlight of the day was Lee Marels' third shot on the fourth. After an indifferent tee shot and a mediocre second shot, he was left with a shot of 130 yards with a 20 ft bend to the green. He nailed it to four feet, brilliant to watch even if he did miss the putt.
Rob Berry only scored 12 points on the front nine but composed himself for the back, after giving himself a stern talking to, and managed to salvage his round, scoring 22 on the back.
Top of the pile though was David Thompson.
He played to his handicap on the front, scoring 18, but really got going on the back to score 22 and win with 40.
In second was Ron Thomas-Gourd 38, third Martin Howlett 37, fourth David Barnes 36 and fifth on countback was Mark Lord with 36.
The best day of the year presented itself for the monthly stableford on Saturday, with no wind and a pleasant temperature offering a high scoring round.
Jack Kirby used to have a single-figure handicap, could he play well and head towards that again?
Stuart Harris has been playing well but his temper tantrums have got the better of him in the past, could he control that?
The answer was an unequivocal yes, as he scored a magnificent 46 to win and take his handicap down to 18, well played.
Second came Jack Kirby with 42 and third Harry Lord on countback 42, and down to 10.
