SDFL Division Six

Stoke Fleming and Strete FC 2,

Ashburton reserves 1

Fleming hosted Ashburton this week with both sides looking for their first wins of the season.

The home team were feeling positive this week with previous missing players returning. With new signings to the club they had plenty of players, even with Ewings still injured and Shepherd now out from an injury from last week's game.

Once again Fleming started slowly, allowing Ashburton lots of time on the ball without causing any real danger. However, from a corner, Ashburton went ahead when the ball was headed home from close range.

Fleming were left feeling angry after a clear push in the back wasn't spotted by the referee, but they picked themselves up and started playing some attractive football.

They got an impressive equaliser when new signing Callum Dunn put Ciaran Daniels through to a one on one with the 'keeper. Daniels made no mistake, slotting it home with ease.

Stoke had chances to take the lead but couldn't find the telling touch to force the ball home, and the first half ended level.

The second half got under way and Fleming carried on where they left off, playing lovely football.

Aaron East broke clear and crossed, then makeshift forward Lee Morrally caused confusion for the 'keeper and defender, allowing Daniels to grab a second.

Shortly after Daniels was put clean through by a clever pass from Luke Webber, but failed to take a third goal. Jackson Cudd came on with 30 minutes left and could have managed a hat-trick if he could have found the target after he worked hard to create his chances.

Fleming created chance after chance without finding the target without Ashburton having any real chances to cause Gordon Green the slightest of trouble in the Fleming goal.

The game ended 2-1 to Fleming and it could have easily been nine or 10 if they took their chances. This week Stoke host Teignmouth in the Herald Cup.

The game kicks off at 2pm on the village green.
