With no local events on last weekend, Dart Gig Club decided to travel the 85 miles to Truro's regatta, held on the Fal estuary.
The venue was on National Trust land at Turnaware Point, with the traditional kite-shaped course being set south from the beach.
The conditions were near perfect, with only the wash from boats to upset the calm water. Sixteen clubs took part in the races, with many of the crews coming from the top Cornish clubs.
It is unusual and a little daunting, for Dart to take part in a small regatta with these clubs.
The first race away was the ladies' A with a field of 14 boats. Dart got off to a good start, and went in to the first mark in ninth place.
Unfortunately, some of the younger crews pulled passed Dart in the later stages of the race, with Dart coming home 12th out of 14 boats.
Dart only had six men available for racing. They rowed in both the men's A and B races.
The A crews included many young and experienced rowers and Dart struggled to keep up with the fleet in the A race, coming home with just Port Issac behind them.
However, in the B race, they swapped the crew around and had a great race.
They went in to the first mark in seventh place, but with most of the boats arriving at the mark within moments of each other, complete carnage ensued.
Dart had boats alongside on both sides and were unable to row for ages, and so they came out of the mark in 13th place.
However, on the next mark, three boats went wide and Dart took them on the inside, and on the final leg of the race, Dart had a superb row, fighting all the way with Coverack and Newquay, finally taking them in the last 200 metres of the race, to come home in seventh position.
This was a very exciting race which the crew thoroughly enjoyed competing in.
The ladies' B had an excellent race and came in fourth out of 14, the club's best result of the day.
The vets race contained mixed crews and four ladies' vets crews. The ladies had a really solid leg down to the first mark, fighting hard to pull ahead of Truro and Cotehele Quay.
Unfortunately, on the last leg of the race, both of these crews pulled back ahead of the Dart team.
