SDFL Division 5
Dittisham United 3
Salcombe Town 0
With the previous saturdays game postponed The Mighty Plums again faced fellow promotion contenders Salcombe Town for the second game running.
The Plums were still without Copeman, Howett, Nettleton and Passmore, but were buoyed by the return of Kirby and Morrallee.
From the kick off Ditts took control of the game as they pressed and harassed the Salcombe back line.
Ditts carved out their first chance only moments from the start when forward Fisher latched onto a through ball and forced a good save.
This set the tone for the large parts of the match as Ditts looked to stretch their opponents. It didn't take midfielder Rowden long to continue his hot-streak against Salcombe as he drove in from the flank and kept his effort low which deceived the Town keeper and nestled in the back of the net.
Salcombe offered very little as an attacking threat throughout the first half and Ditts comfortably extended their lead courtesy of Bruckner, after Rowden was fouled just inside his own half and captain Martyn laid claim to the free-kick. His excellent delivery into the Salcombe box saw Bruckner spin round his man and instinctively lob the keeper to gain a two goal advantage.
Ditts continued their domination to the interval but found a very different and resolute Salcombe side in the second half.
Salcombe started to pin back the Ditts defence and midfield as they pressed up the field. The defence of Darch, Bastin and Collett, martialled by captain Martyn, were impressive as they defended stoutly.
Man of the match Joe Blamey was impervious in front of the back three as he broke up attack after attack and distributed the ball faultlessly.
The work-rate of the Ditts players throughout the game was excellent. Wing backs Morralllee and Jake Blamey worked extremely hard to get up and down the flanks and contribute to both attack and defence. Ditts killed the game as a contest with 10 minutes to go after some good pressure on the Salcombe back line paid off when Martyn was fouled in the box.
After three to four minutes of disputes and protestations from Salcombe, forward Bruckner eventually, stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to complete his brace.
Late on subsitute Redford nearly made it four as the talented youngster picked up the ball, dribbled his way past three Salcombe defenders, and forced a good save from the keeper.
This Saturday Dittisham face another tough test in their bid for promotion, away to Watcombe Wand-erers, 2.30 ko.
