Tribute Devon One
Dartmouth RFC 0,
Torrington RFC 17
Not for the first time this season Dartmouth found themselves on an embarrassing defeat, not only defeated but nilled at home again, writes Jeff Hunt.
There was no excuse for Dartmouth, Torrington turned up a bit late, were disorganised in the warm-up and came with the bare minimum of players.
Dartmouth, on the other hand, had twenty players to choose from, a good home crowd and good running rugby weather.
People like Will Lockerbie, Glen Allison, Nick Obilenski, Adam Sharam and Simon Entwistle must feel very disappointed with Dartmouth's dismal display.
Too many players were found wanting and too many players hiding. For once this season Dartmouth had a good set of forwards and a decent three-quarter line, but still couldn't replicate last season's gutsy, determined, never-say-die performances. Dartmouth have their last away league game this Saturday against Totnes and if last Saturday's performance has anything to go by, Dartmouth will want to regroup, have a word with themselves and put in a final last performance, not only for themselves but for everyone that's supported them throughout the season.
Dartmouth know they are better than the results they've been getting, but they need to start believing in themselves again and put in a full shift, start rucking for the ball, counter-rucking, mauling the ball and kicking for position.
Then and only then can they achieve success, so come on Dartmouth, pull your socks up, have a look in the mirror, get out there and play the rugby you were last season.
Give yourselves, the back room staff, your families and the town of Dartmouth something to cheer about again.
Give us a big W.
