SDFL Division Five

Dittisham United 4,

Broadhempston 0

On Saturday The Mighty Plums finished their league encounter against tomorrow's opponents in the semi-final of the Bill Treeby Cup, Broadhempston United, with a bitter sweat feeling.

Dittisham rather comfortably dispatched their opponents but the game was overshadowed by a horrible double leg break injury to key player Jake Blamey.

In the first half an hour a committed effort from the youngster to keep the ball while on a mazey run was met by a hard challenge from the opposition defender.

Although adjudged to be a fair challenge by the referee, it left the unlucky Jake with his nasty injury.

Since Jake's arrival at Dittisham last summer, the highly talented 17-year-old has shown nothing but class, desire, and determination as he's nailed down his place in the Dittisham starting 11.

On behalf of everyone connected with Dittisham United, the club would like to wish Jake a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back in the green shirt of Dittisham as soon as possible.

During the first 30 minutes of play the Plums really should have put themselves in the driving seat but despite efforts from Fisher, Bruckner, Copeman and Kirby, Ditts just couldn't find the net.

After the injury to Jake, it took over an hour for the game to get under way again and with both teams cold from the break, the end of the first half came to a close with neither team dominating. After a half-time rallying from manager Rowden and captain Martyn, the Plums came out for the second half rejuvenated and looking to take the game to their opponents.

From the Broads restart Ditts started to test their high defensive line. It didn't take long for the ever impressive youngster Redford to make his mark on the game as a second-half substitute.

Redford latched on to a through pass and from an acute angle, smashed his effort across the 'keeper and into the far corner, giving his team the lead.

Moments later Fisher further extended Dittisham's lead when, after a neat attacking move, Passmore laid the ball in field for Fisher to score calmly past the 'keeper.

Once again the backline of Darch, Bastin, and Collett, marshalled by skipper Martyn, were excellent as they defended every long ball pumped into their box by the Broads backline.

Joe Blamey was yet again impervious in his natural holding midfield role, his strong and simple play haltingany potential Broads threat and allowing Ditts to continue to build attack after attack.

Redford scored Dittisham's third and secured his brace when a half-cleared Dittisham corner was whipped back in the box and Redford was on hand to finish from close range.

With 15 to go Bruckner completed the scoring when he latched on to a Joe Kirby through-ball and weaved his way past two defenders before placing his shot past the 'keeper into the back of the net.

Tomorrow Dittisham travel away to face Broadhempston United to try and seal a place in the Bill Treeby cup final.

Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm.
