SDFL Division Five

Malborough United 1,

Dittisham United 9

On Saturday the Mighty Plums travelled to face bottom of the league Marlborough looking to carry on their good early-season form.

Ditts took the kick-off and dominated the early play. They could have taken an instant lead when a defence-splitting pass from Rowdon found Fisher, who forced a good save from the Malborough 'keeper.

Ditts continued to pepper the opposition's goal and went close through further efforts from Fisher and Copeman.

Ditts made the breakthrough courtesy of Tom Rowdon when Blamey delivered an inch-perfect pass from the right into Rowdon, who brilliantly lifted his effort over the 'keeper.

It wasn't long before Ditts extended their lead when Soper found Kirby down the left flank and the latter fed Bruckner, who beat his man, cut inside, and finished into the bottom left corner.

Ditts continued to dominate the play and they put themselves further ahead soon after when Fisher weaved his way through the Malborough defence and finished past the 'keeper. Bruckner then grabbed his second of the game with a close-range finish after an excellent pass from Soper.

Although bottom of the league Malborough's young team showed signs of quality with some good interplay.

They got a goal of their own midway through the half after Lee Darch impressively saved an initial effort from a Malborough forward, but was beaten by the follow-up which took a nasty deflection.

Ditts put any idea of a Malborough fightback to bed as they re-installed their three-goal advantage when Chris Fisher broke away down the right flank and smashed his low 20-yard effort in to the bottom left corner.

Ditts continued to press and it was Deano Martyn that scored late in the first half with a towering header from another excellent Jake Blamey delivery from a corner.

In the second half it was much of the same from the Plums as they looked to further increase their lead.

They achieved their aim when the ball fell to Bruckner in the box and he scored from close range to secure his hat-trick.

Marcus Copeman was next to get himself on the score sheet when Fisher played a clever ball through and he finished low past the 'keeper.

Substitute Redford then completed the scoring with a fantastic late goal when, after quick Ditts break away, Joe Blamey fed Bruckner down the right and he sent a low ball into the box which Redford made no mistake in brilliantly finishing into the top left corner.

Dittisham play second-placed Salcombe AFC at the Berry tomorrow, kick off 2.30pm.
