The Normandy Vase and midweek medal events were played last Wednesday and it was refeshing to see and hear how it bore fruit for a change writes John Garner.
For many months now both Paul Humphreys and Paul Durrant have been trying desperately to get their handicaps down.
Both have always played well in circus events but never managed to repeat the performance when it counts in a medal or stableford; but at last they've done it when it counts.
Paul Humphreys won the competition with a good round of net 70, taking his handicap down two shots from 22 to 20.
In second was Paul Durrant with 72, who goes down from 19 to 18, third Steve Blackie 72, which takes his handicap down by one.
Fourth and in the buffer zone was Mr Consistent himself Mike Whitelaw 75 and in fifth place Dave Fahy 76.
There were two twos Aiden Cosway on the third and Brian Mushens on the seventh. On Thursday Dartmouth were hosts to Wrangaton in a friendly.
Played in the usual manner Dartmouth had good reason to be cheerful as they won 41/2-11/2 and to top the week off Dartmouth were home to Teign Valley in the third round of the Dartmoor League and won comprehensively 5-0.
That means that Darmouth have won their first three games on the trot in the league with a fourth game to come at home.
After that, though, there are many games away, but acting captain Ian Metchette couldn't be more pleased with the effort so far and was full of praise for the teams that have played.
Just before the league teed off another small circus was held, again organised by the perennial Rob Knight, where 11 players took to the fairways with varying fortunes.
John Wood was keen to try out his new driver and he seemed very pleased with it, but many would say: 'You wait till it gets to no know you...'
Peter Sigler was keen to play as he has been away for some time, but all didn't go to plan as he totalled 13 points for the round, there's always next time Pete...
The day, though, belonged to John Garner.
In the doldrums for quite a while, he finally broke the shackles and won the front nine with 18, shared the back nine with Ed Mitchell with 19 and won overall with 37.
There was one two and that went to Brian Mushens again, this time on the fifth hole.
