Dartmouth Golf men's section Bob Wotton kindly volunteered to run the Wednesday circus for which there was another good turn out writes John Garner. Bob came up with a novel idea that before the players went out they good choose a hole which would double their score. Steve Owen then had the bright idea that he would choose the notoriously difficult fourth to double his score. Very brave Mr Owen, and it paid off as he parred it with two shots, giving him eight points on one hole. A good start to the front nine but not good enough as the circus master himself Bob took the front nine with 22. Another outstanding play was that of Barry O'Shea, who took the back nine with 26 points, three under par. Barry shared the overall win of 43 points with Paul Durrant, who is also enjoying his golf because he is playing consistently well; long may it last, but we know it won't... To add the icing on the cake, Paul had the only two. On Saturday  the second round of the Sandbanks Trophy was played in conjunction with the men's monthly medal and London Pride summer swing. Conditions were really good, laying the foundation for some low scores. Paul Dunkerley came out on top and won the trophy with a superb net 69 playing off eight. In second was Andy Birss 70, third Alan Goldthorpe 72, fourth on countback Rod Hawke and fifth, also on countback, Dave Nicholls. Mark Beal had a two on the third, as did Colin Bell and Brian Mushens, but to make his day complete 'our kid' scouser Paul Dunkerley chipped in for a two on the 18th.
