Last Wednesday's circus was Lewis Easter's 75th birthday bash revisited writes John Garner.

It was well attended, even though the weather threatened to stop it again, but as the first group made their way to the first tee the clouds cleared and all enjoyed a dry game.

The course is still playing long and difficult, so it's no surprise that the winner Paul Durrant only scored 35; Rod Hawke won the back nine with 18 points and that included two blobs. Paul won the front as well with 19.

Lewis kindly donated four bottles of wine for nearest the pin, with the third won by Ron Barton, fifth John Garner and 18th Kevin Eighteen, but no one managed to get on to the seventh, confirming just how hard that tee shot is.

The Saturday circus was severely depleted by the freezing cold weather; many players cancelled their tee times as it was not only cold, but raining hard as well.

There were, however, nine players who were prepared to take it on, even though it was a back-nine start as the front was still frozen.

Bruce Blackie and Sid Davis shared the back with 17 points, but the day was dominated by Rob Knight.

When his score was presented to club captain Kevin Eighteen he immediately had to put a pound in the swear box. No-one could believe their ears as his score was read out, 24 points on the front nine in those conditions defies belief, with an overall score of 40 making his round four under gross, it must be one of the best rounds he's ever had.

Well played Rob, although you've left many still wondering just how you did that...
