The week beginning July 16 was the start of three matches for the men's section of Dartmouth Bowling Club in division two of the Mid Devon League.
The first one on Wednesday, July 18, was away to Kingsbridge Park.
The rink of J Bowden, M Gregory, H Crossman and skip P Hannaford against A Lawrence, J Couch, C Adams and skip J Peckham kept their heads in front for 18 of the 21 ends, being 17-13 up at this stage.
However, they then lost their concentration and dropped five shots on end 19 to leave the Park 18-17 up, before Dartmouth scored a two on end 20 to be 19-18 up.
The Park's skip J Peckham then played the shot of the game on the last end to leave the score at 19-19.
The rink of M Moysey, S Ivey, R Swinden and skip P Caddy, had to fight all the way in their match against D Snow, G Brown, R Welham and skip J Harding to keep up their winning run.
They were 13-15 down after 15 ends, before they scored nine shots to Park's two over the last six ends to run out winners 22-17.
The rink of M Greenland, D Keep, D Sherlock and skip W Varnam, against E Morgan, S Russell, R Elson and skip R Kerswell, had a game they probably want to forget, being 5-23 down after 10 ends.
They fought back to be only 12-26 after 15 ends and 17-30 down after 20 ends, but only scored a single shot on end 21, to eventually lose by 18 shots to 30.
The rink of P Walton, R Lambden, J Townsend and skip J Tremlett played a solid game in their match against P Richards, R Edmonds, J Brothers and skip J Fowler.
Being 18-12 up after 15 ends, they then had a slight blip over the next five ends, dropping six shots to their one to be 19-19 at 20 ends.
They then scored two shots on end 21 to give them a winning score of 21-19. This gave the Park a winning score of 85 shots to 80 and a points total of 9-5.
The second match of the week was away to Teignmouth Den on Thursday, July 19, and not a lot can be said about this match.
Needless to say it wasn't a good match for Dartmouth, losing on all four rinks to give The Den a 14 points to nil win.
The third match of the week was at home to Bitten Park on Saturday, July 21, after the two matches played in the week and the results not going Dartmouth's way.
They still find themselves top of the league on shot difference, and a win against Bitton Park would help their cause and so it proved, On rink one the team of M Durston, M Greenland, D Sherlock and skip W Varnam had a good game up to end 11 when they were 15-1 up, but then the tide turned and they lost 12 shots to one over the next 10 ends, but managed to hold on winning by 16-13.
On rink two the team of T Moysey, M Gregory, H Crossman and skip P Hannaford were 3-3 after five ends, before they proceeded to score steadily over the next 16 ends, outscoring Bitton Park by 16 shots to 11 and winning by 19-14.
On rink three the team of M Moysey, S Ivey, R Swinden with skip P Caddy got back to winning ways after Thursday, being 19-1 up after 10 ends but then Bitten Park put up a fight over the next 11 ends, outscoring Dartmouth by 16 shots to eight, but Dartmouth had done enough on the previous ends to win by 27 shots to 17.
On rink four the team of J Bowden, P Walton, J Townsend with skip J Tremlett again played a steady game being 7-4 up at five ends.
9-7 up after 10 ends and 15-7 up at 15 ends, they then scored five shots to Bitten's four over the last six ends to win by 20 shots to 11. T his helped Dartmouth to a 82-55 shot difference and a points total of 14-nil.
