SECOND-place Dartmouth smashed the previously unbeaten league leaders for six without response, with Lucy Pillar grabbing a hat-trick. After an awesome display of disciplined, counter-attacking hockey, Dartmouth put themselves in a great position for possible promotion in second place, which should be virtually assured if they beat ISCA away next week. The only downside for the girls will be a line-up without Robyn Rendle, who played her last game before moving on to further her career in Bristol. On her current form, she will be sorely missed. But at least she went on a real high after a superb display at the Britannia Royal Naval College.Teign had the run of play for the first 15 minutes as a nervous-looking Dartmouth defence soaked up the pressure, but failed to clear the danger completely. The complexion of the match changed, though, when a quick clearance found Robyn Rendle on the right wing and she drove to the line and crossed to find Lucy Pillar, who fired home. Teign countered well and resolute defending at a few short corners brought confidence to the home defence, who cleared well again to release the Rendle-Pillar combination for goal number two for the latter. The second half started well for Dartmouth as an immediate attack brought a short corner which saw Lara Bradley control the ball well under pressure and send a fierce strike through the Teign defence. Dartmouth's confidence was now sky high, which showed through great passing and movement as they continually broke down the Teign defence with ease. Working hard on the right, Jamie Rendle sent a perfect ball through for sister Robyn to run on to and skilfully execute a fine shot past the advancing goalie to make it 4-0. Teign were always dangerous but, with Chloe Edwards strong in defence and goalie Ellie Malley looking sharp, the Dartmouth goal was never seriously troubled. Captain Siobhan Edwards kept her team attacking well with good ball distribution to both wings, meanwhile. She was ably supported by Lara Bradley, who picked out player of the match Robyn Rendle with a well-timed pass to once again find Lucy Pillar at the top of the D, where she snapped a great shot home to gain her hat-trick. Dartmouth were now running riot over a visibly tiring Teign and numerous short corners followed. The icing on this fine display came via a lovely short corner strike from Lara Bradley, which deflected in to seal the game. The club would like to thank match sponsor Chris Gale for his generous support.
