Dawlish 3,
Dartmouth 5
Dartmouth ladies were carrying a few injuries, in this game, sustained last week against Torbay, and were not quite their nromal selves, particularly in defence.
Coach Matt Putt will have his work cut out this week when Dartmouth take on Dart on the last, vital, league game of the season.
Dartmouth started the game against Dawlish with their usual high tempo, Darcey Wall coming close along with Lucy Pillar and Sarah Barrett hitting the post, all in the first five minutes.
Sam Webb and Hannah Pillar were kept busy with the quick breaks that Dawlish were making but Dartmouth kept pressing and were rewarded in just seven minutes.
Sarah Barrett receiving the ball from Siobhan Edwards.
Siobhan, taking a short corner, slid the ball towards Sarah and Sarah flicked the ball home from just inside the opposition's D.
Dartmouth kept the pressure on and Sarah Barrett came close again after a short corner, but Dawlish hit back with another counter attack and with 10 minutes to go before half time got the equaliser.
Siobhan Edwards came off shortly after the equaliser and on came Jo Rendle.
Dawlish, picking up on the substitution, hit Dartmouth on the counter again and to Dartmouth's dismay Dawlish were ahead two goals to one, against the run of play.
Lisa Hunt and Jamie Rendle were making a nuisance of themselves on the right wing and Jamie's crossing and her stick control made the Dawlish defence dizzy.
With half time looming Dartmouth with their best efforts just couldn't penetrate the stubborn Dawlish defence and the score remained 2-1 at half time.
Dartmouth stayed calm and the half time talk from Jeff Hunt and Lucy Pillar gave the inspiration they were looking for.
Jeff Hunt asking the Dartmouth ladies to take time on the ball, compose themselves, pick the shot and the goals would come.
Lucy made a couple of changes at the half time interval, bringing off Darcey Wall and bringing on Lauren Rogers, plus putting back on Siobhan Edwards to replace Jo Rendle.
Dartmouth from the restart showed their intent within four minutes of the second half.
Jamie Rendle picked the ball up from deep, crossed from the right wing and Sam Webb ran on to the ball and slotted past the advancing 'keeper, taking the score to two goals apiece.
Three minutes later Dartmouth were at it again and Lisa Hunt stole the ball from a Dawlish player deep inside her own half and took the ball a full 30 meters before passing to Lauren Rogers just outside the opposition's D.
Lauren saw both her initial and follow-up shot saved, but Sarah Barrett flicked the ball over the helpless 'keeper and put Dartmouth in front for the first time in the second half.
Dartmouth, with their tails up, pressed the Dawlish defence again but were caught on the counter, taking the score to 3-3 with just eight minutes left to play.
Just after the equaliser Jeff Hunt had to make another change, taking the injured Siobhan off and bringing back on Jo Rendle.
Dartmouth showed a lot of character and composure and once again Sarah Barrett picked the ball up from Chloe Edwards and Barrett put Dartmouth in front again with a well taken goal and her first hat-trick of the seaon.
Two minutes later Lucy Pillar sealed the victory with a fifth goal for Dartmouth.
Sam Webb was voted player of the match for her non-stop running and determination to get the ball. Sarah Barrett was a close second for her well-taken hat-trick.
Dartmouth will have to be at their best this week against a well-equipped Dart side, and the club is urging everyone to get yourselves down to Kingsbridge Community College this Saturday and support the Dartmouth hockey team.
Push back is at 12.30 and with a big crowd to cheer the Dartmouth ladies on, Dartmouth will have the 12th player and you will be entertained.
