Dartmouth Bowling Club

Two games this week for the mens team of Dartmouth in the MDL, the first was an evening match at home against Kingsbridge Park and this always turns into a very close match which could go either way.

This match was no exception.

On rink 1 the team of R Swinden, S Ivey, M Moysey with skip P Caddy were up against E Morgan, J Bruce, R Elson, with skip R Kerswell and were 9-4 up at 5 ends, 20-4 up at 10 ends, they were still 24-9 up at 15 ends.

But they then proceeded to drop nine shots to one over the last six ends to give The Park a glimmer of a chance. But they hung on to win by 25-18.

On rink 2 the team of M Durston, M Gregory, D Sherlock with skip W Varnum were matched against S Russell, C Adams, R Welham and skip J Harding and this turned into a very close game. Dartmouth were 6-3 up at 5 ends and then found themselves 8-9 down after 10 ends. They went 15-14 up at 15 ends but could only score five shots to 'Parks' 8 over the last 6 ends to give 'The Park' a winning score of 22-19.

On rink 3 the team of R Crew, T Hawken, J Townsend with skip P Hannaford were up against J Fowler, A laurence, J Yeabsley with skip J Peckham and were 2-3 down at 5 ends. They then went 9-8 up at 10 ends, but after the tea break 'The Park' scored 15 shots to Dartmouths 10 over the next 11 ends to leave 'The Park' with a winning score of 23-19.

On rink 4 the team of M Greenland, B Brehout, T Moysey with skip J Tremlett were up against W Rogers, R Edmonds, D Hurrell with skip J Brothers and were 5-4 up at five ends they then found themselves 10-12 down at 10 ends. At 15 ends they were 19-17 up. Both teams scored 4 shots apiece over the next five ends leaving Dartmouth 23-21 up going into the last end. 'The Park' managed to score a single on the last end – but it wasn't quite enough – leaving Dartmouth with a closest of winning margins 23-22.

This win gave Dartmouth a winning shot difference of 87-85 and a 10-4 pts total.

On Saturday they were away to Torquay BC(B) team and after the win at home against Kingsbridge Park there was high hopes that the same could be said against Torquay. But to no avail.

The rink of R Crew, H Crossman, J Townsend with skip P Hannaford were the pick of the bunch and were never headed in there match being 5-4 up at five ends and 12-4 up at 10 ends. They went further ahead as the game progressed and were 17-5 ahead after 15 ends. They then scored nine shots to Torquay's four to runout easy winners by 26 shots to 9.

The rink of M Durston, M Gregory, D Sherlock with skip W Varnum could not get to grips with the green and had a disaster of a day losing by 11 shots to 23.

The rink of M greenland, J Bowden, T Moysey with skip J Tremlett had a much closer game and were 9-7 up at 10 ends but then the wheels fell off and they could only score 6 shots to Torquays 13 to lose by 15 shots to 20.

The rink of R Swinden, S Ivey, M Moysey with skip P Caddy were 2-5 down after five ends and 6-12 down after 10 ends. They pulled it back to be 16-15 up at 15 ends. But they could only score four shots to Torquays nine over the last 6 ends losing by 20 shots to 24.

Final score Dart-mouth 71 shots Torquay 76 and a pts total of 12-2 to Torquay.

The previous Wed-nesday the ladies of Dart/Stoke played a match at home in the gallery league, which went well for the home team. First out of the blocks were the triples of S Keep, P Lamble with skip J Townsend with a 33-8 win. Then came P Deese, M Weedon with skip C Wotton who won 15-11 and S Joy, G Bowden with skip V Gregory who managed to win 14-13.

This gave Dart/Stoke a winning shot difference of 62-32 and a pts total of 10-0.

On Friday they played in the 4-3-2-1 Gallery Challenge Shield at home to Bovey Tracy also at Dartmouth. They won the Singles 21-13, the pairs lost 12-19, the triples won 30-15 and the fours lost 16-18,and as the totals are added together it gave Dart/Stoke a winning score overall of 79 shots to 65.

They now go forward to the next round to play either Kingsbridge Park or Marldon.
