Dartmouth Bowling Club
On Monday, June 24, it was another game for the ladies of Dart/
Stoke in the Gallery League.
For the first time this season it was played on grass at the Stoke Fleming club, against the ladies of Teignmouth Den, with the hosts winning by a margin of 73 shots to 33.
The rink of E French, G Bowden and skip V Gregory were only 10-8 up after 10 ends, but then went 20-9 up after 15 ends and ran out winners by 24 shots to 10.
The team of M Burden, P Lamble and skip J Townsend were 11-6 up after 10 ends, then found themselves losing 11 shots to three over the next eight ends to lose by 14 shots to 17.
The Stoke Fleming triples of the Dart/
Stoke team had a much easier game, being 19-0 up at five ends, 26-2 up at 10 ends and 34-3 up at 15 ends.
They managed to give The Den ladies three shots to their one, but still won their match by 35 shots to six. This gave Dart/
Stoke a winning points total of 8-2.
On Thursday, June 27, it was a rearranged match for the ladies of Dart/Stoke in the Gallery League played at Dartmouth, the visitors being Paignton/Torbay B team.
This became a bit of a one-sided match as Dart/Stoke won by 94 shots to 27.
The triples rink of S Joy, A Sherlock and skip V Gregory never looked like losing, leading from the word go, and ran out winners by 26-11.
The triples of J Varnam, P Lamble and skip J Townsend made even lighter work of their game and were 25-4 up after 10 ends.
Moved further ahead after 15 ends they were 34-4 ahead and wrapped it up in the final ends by winning 38-5.
The triples team of P Dease, C Wotton and skip M Weedon, who were the Stoke part of the team, were never behind in their game, starting well with five shots on the very first end.
They went 18-7 up at 10 ends and 24-11 at 15 ends, they then scored six more shots to no reply from Paignton/
Torbay over the last three ends to win their match by 30 shots to 11.
This gave Dart/Stoke a points total of 10-0.
On Saturday, June 29, it was the turn of the men's section, in an away match against Newton Abbot B in the MDL.
The rink of M Durston, M Gregory, D Sherlock and skip W Varnum found themselves 5-9 down after five ends and were 11-10 up after 10 ends.
They were then 15-15 after 15 ends, but they could only score four shots to N/As eight over the last six ends to lose by 19-23.
The rink of B Brehout, S Ivey, M Moysey with skip P Caddy fared much better in their match, being 8-0 up at five ends and eventually winning by 22 shots to 14.
The rink of R Crew, A Hawken, J Townsend and skip P Hannaford had quite an easy match, also being 8-0 up at five ends and 13-3 at 10 ends.
They went further ahead and were 15-6 up at 15 ends, and they never looked back after that running out winners by 21 shots to 8.
The rink of J Pryke-Smith, A Moysey, R Lambden and skip R Swinden never had a chance in their match, being well beaten by a margin of 37 shots to 10.
This gave Newton a winning shot score of 82 to 72 and a points total of 10-4.
