Sunday was a good day for sailing at Dittisham Sailing Club.
The rain was nowhere to be seen and there was a fair breeze from the west. 18 boats came to the line with a short beat to H mark.
Patrick Bromley in his Laser made a good start and soon opened up a sizeable lead, followed by a gaggle of Solos and Lasers.
Race officer Barry Kenyon set a figure of eight course which gave every one a good chance.
While Bromley sailed away, a tussle developed between Richard Allen and Jonathan Weeks, both in Solos, which Allen won.
At the finish, although Bromley was well ahead, he only beat Allen by the narrowest of margins, one second on corrected time. Weeks was close behind in third place.
For the second race the course was modified slightly and this time it was Weeks who took an early lead.
Commodore David Thompson, showing increased speed recently, went into the lead and powered away from the rest of the fleet.
Behind there was close racing between the Solos of Richard Allen and Frank Seear, and also the Lasers of Bromley and Bevis Wright, who was close behind.
Although Thompson crossed the finishing line well ahead, he was relegated to seventh on handicap.
At the end of the race Weeks was first, Allen second and Bromley third.
The next racing at Dittisham will be this Sunday, June 24, when there will be two races starting at 10am followed by 'Butties on the Beach'.
Juniors are encouraged to participate.
