Another calm and warm day greeted the players for the midweek circus writes John Garner.

Phil Brooking is enjoying a return to form and claimed the front nine with 22 points; the back nine belonged to none other than that man ‘Oh no not again it can’t be’ Mike Whitelaw with 21 points.

Mike Griffiths won overall with a creditable 39 points, even a dispute with the rules official that is Mr Bob Wotton didn’t put him off.

Bob was not having a good day anyway and was struggling to get off the tee. His head was so high in the air through his swing that he seemed to be skylark spotting instead of ball watching.

Sid Davis was the only one to get a two and was a happy chap.

The monthly stableford held on Saturday attracted a lot of players, but these days if Mike Whitelaw is included in the field the conclusion seems inevitable.

So it proved as Mike triumphed yet again with 41 points, earning a one-shot handicap cut from 12 to 11 in the process.

Second was Andy Lennon, who is in a rich vein of form himself at the moment and scored a very good 40 points, which gets him also cut one shot from seven to six.

Third was Laurence Chadfield with 40 points, fourth Kevin Hoare with 39 and fifth Phillip Eggins 38.

There were five twos, by Pete Hannaford and John Wood on the third, Sam Knight and Steven Owen on the fifth and that man Mike Whitelaw on the 18th hole.

Dartmouth hosted Downs Crediton in the league on Sunday but unfortunately Dartmouth went down 2-3, the winning pairs being Mario Aresti and Mike Whitelaw, plus Gordon Kidd and David Brooking.

Shaun Guy and Andy Lennon lost one down, Roger Mawson and Paul Dunkerley lost 3-2, and John Wood and Steve Blackie lost

2 -1.

Although it’s a loss no great damage was done as Dartmouth have been doing well so they’re by no means out of it, just a minor hiccup and it’s all still to play for.
