Dartmouth Golf Club senior section

This Monday was a little bit different for the senior golfers at the club, as their normal weekly competition had an added extra bonus attached to it.

Not only were they fighting for the individual glory from winning the weekly stableford competition, but also a place in the Millennium Trophy was at stake. Three players, one from each of the handicap categories, would represent the Dartmouth club at Torquay later in the season.

Although the sun did not shine, the conditions on the course were favourable for some good performances and the guys did not let themselves down.

Out ahead and burning up the course were Barry O’Shea and (not again) Mike Whitelaw, who each scored a magnificent 42 points apiece, Barry getting the victory by means of a better back nine holes.

If that was close it was no easier for the next two places, who were Mario Aresti and Colin Cooper. They again each matched each other’s score with 39 points, Mario getting the higher position based on countback.

Fifth place went to John Cousins, who just edged out George Reeve with 37 points. There were two twos on the day and these went to Bernard Taylor on the third hole and Roy Baldwin on the seventh hole.

The qualifiers for the Millennium Trophy, by handicap categories were Mike Whitelaw (0 – 14), Barry O’Shea (15 – 20) and John Cousins (21 – 28) a fine team to represent the club and one that will take some beating.
