The seniors continued to have a busy season right through September writes Rosemary Sharps.

Earlier in the month, senior captain Stuart had the pleasure of presenting the seniors’ Olympic Trophy to his vice-captain Alan Evans, who won the competition with an impressive medalford score of 16.

He was followed into second place by Steve Ryder scoring 19 points, with Andrew Kingsnorth finishing third on countback with 20 points.

The Albert Dodman Trophy, a stableford better ball competition held later, was played in glorious sunshine with little rain, and this highly contested trophy saw 28 pairs participate.

Topping the scoreboard with 42 points was Leon Dimmick and his partner Mike Williams; three pairs followed with 41 points.

Based on countback Keith Williams and Keith Hollingsworth came in second, with Alf Kings and John Steel third.

Julie Leach came top of division one in the Saturday stableford competition last weekend with 34 points.

In second place was captain Caroline Hallett with 31 points, on countback from Sheila Mathieson who also scored 31 points.

Division two was won convincingly by Vanda Irish, who scored an impressive 41 points, six points ahead of both Jenny Balkwill and Sandy Lyon who scored 35 points, Jenny edging out Sandy for second place on countback.

Anne Fowler lead the way in division three scoring 38 points with Carole Murphy second scoring 36 points and Andrea Livermore came third when she scored 34 points.

Congratulations go to Jo Shorrocks and her playing partner Amanda Mayne (a Somerset county player) on winning the English Ladies’ Seniors Brenda King Foursome title, which was held at Coxmoor in Nottinghamshire.

The competition was held over two rounds and with only three holes left in the second round, Jo and Amanda were three shots behind.

However, courtesy of Jo’s nerve-jangling three-foot downhill putt on the 18th the pair clinched the title by one shot.

Another title to be added to the honours’ board for Jo.
