Dartmouth Golf Club senior section

Monday morning at Dartmouth Golf Club and the wind was blowing so strongly that it was difficult just to get your balance at times.

In fact if it was a PGA event they would have suspended play, but Dartmouth’s finest were all there ready and eager to battle the elements in their annual Turkey Trot competition.

In reality it was a normal individual stableford contest, but with festive prizes up for grabs, for those who retuned the best scores.

Much to the frustration of his fellow players, it is getting to be quite a habit for Dave Rowsell to show the way home.

Fresh from picking up two awards at last Saturday’s annual awards ceremony, he was at it again as he revelled in the stormy conditions to record a very impressive 34 points.

On this occasion he was closely followed by a relatively new face to the senior ranks, Rob Waye, with 33 points.

It was a real battle however for the minor places with regulars Tony Hall, Bernard Taylor and Martin Howlett all coming in with 31 points. It was Tony who managed to claim third and Bernard fourth by means of countback.

There was much to talk about however back in the bar, of tails of how the wind played tricks on their ball and turned a perfectly hit drive in to boomerang shot.

Everyone is hoping for much calmer conditions next week, when the guys are out there again. This time it will be a fun Texas scramble with drawn partners, followed by their traditional Christmas lunch.
