Dartmouth Golf Club senior section

With the fairways wet, the rough heavy and the greens slower than usual, it was not a day for good scoring, or so it was thought as the senior golfers took to the course.

But as they say, class tells and the man of the moment – and there have been several moments of late – Dave Rowsell once again showed the rest of them just how to do it.

Although a great start, with a birdie at the first, only one more par and series of bogeys left Dave with only 17 points over the front nine holes, a score that was equalled by many and indeed bettered by a number of his fellow competitors.

But just three bogeys on the back nine, plus five pars and a magnificent birdie on the toughest hole on the course, the 15th, meant that Dave came back with a score of 21 and an overall points tally of 38.

Not to be outdone, but just missing out, was the effervescent George Reeve, who came in with 37 points. Third, fourth and fifth places went to Colin Cooper, Ron Barton and Des Graham with two 35 points and a 34-pointer.

There were two twos on the day and these went to Dave Parnell and Martin Howlett.

So a tough day for some, as the conditions tested the best of them, but an enjoyable round of golf with fellow members.
