THIS week’s action for the Dartmouth GC ladies came in the form of the Ping 4BBB qualifier, reports Chris Mushens.
Jan Cousins and Alison White came out on top in this England Golf Stableford, a lovely mix of pars and birdies making for a 43-point tally. Mary Thompson and Marilyn Lucas were the runners-up.
The Dartmouth course ladies were playing a 9-hole fun Stableford and were all pretty close in scores until the final two holes. Barbara Dally’s eight points on the final two saw her finish well ahead of Jan Thomas-Gourd and Sharon Jones, on 22pts.
With the men’s midweek Stableford being played from the red tees, there were some strong scores.
Dave Sparks (40pts) topped Division One ahead of Trevor Pretty (36pts) whilst Paul Stubbs (41pts) and John Cousins (37pts) led Division Two. Paul and Sam Churchill had the only twos.
The first round of the men’s Sandbanks Trophy was played on Saturday - a two-round Medal competition, there are trophies for the lowest scratch and lowest handicap score.
Tim Enticknap finished first with a Nett 69, even though he scored an eight and a nine. Just behind him was Rob Haddy on 70.
Edd Mitchell heads the scratch leaderboard with 79 followed by Jack Kirby with 83. There were twos for Stuart Jamieson, Brian Mushens and Dave Sparks.
With a big trophy competition being played, there was a very small field for the mixed Stableford.
John Garner, Chris Mushens and Bobby Wotton were the hardy souls, battling an arctic wind but they were safe in the knowledge that the worst they could do is finish third. Chris managed to see off the chaps, finishing with 30 points.
The ladies’ President’s team (pictured) is struggling due to injuries but put up a strong fight at home against Staddon Heights. Although only 1.5 points were won, two of the other matches went down the 18th.
