Dartmouth Rugby Football Club take on Tamar Saracens this Saturday in a friendly at Norton Playing Fields with a 3pm kick off.
It will be the first game of the season. Tamar Saracens are in a league below Dartmouth, Sarries hailing from Devon Two and Dartmouth being newly promoted to Devon One.
The match will also be the first time for Dartmouth to go to their new clubhouse at The Seale Arms. Alan and Pauline Hook have taken on DRFC since the trustees of DRFC's clubhouse, otherwise known as The Pavilions, are set to redevelop the land.
Dartmouth have been training hard since the season finished back in May. They play touch rugby on Tuesday nights and Chris Chater has kindly offered his services when he trains the players on a Thursday evening.
Touch rugby has been offering close contact and Thursday's training session is used to work on fitness.
Will Lockerbie has handed over the captaincy to Reg Varney, while John Dingle will be vice-captain. Declan Hammond has kindly taken up being club captain. Aaron Hunt is playing at fly-half this week, taking over from Richard Lobb.
Richard may be going back to university to study more of architecture, so Steve Atkins has to make a few changes due to work commitments and the like.
Whatever happens on Saturday, there will be 38 blokes who haven't played competitive rugby for a couple of months. All that know about rugby will be aware that these players will have been like thirty caged animals for the past months two months. As a result, it may get messy and physical, but what we can guarantee is that you will be entertained.
Dartmouth RFC extends an invitation to one and all to come up and enjoy a good game of rugby.
