Upton Athletic 1,

East Allington 2

ALLINGTON picked up three good points on Saturday after starting in confident mood.

They took an early lead when they worked the ball down the left and Jack Massey’s low shot ended up just inside the far post.

Upton gradually got back into the gameas ‘keeper Richard Teague pulled off a couple of good saves to deny them, but eventually they got the equaliser when Dan Bowles was penalised for what seemed a soft penalty.

Driven on by the midfield trio of Matt Price, Tom Rowdon and Andy Davis, Ally came close to restoring their lead when Rowdon latched on to a through ball from Price.

The ‘keeper parried his first shot and his follow-up from an acute angle hit the side netting.

In the second half Allington were asking all the questions as they pushed for the winner, Ben Robey, Davis and Price all seeing shots cleared off the line.

The home side were always dangerous on the break and full-back Jon Davis played his quick, tricky winger very well.

Substitute James Ivatts replaced Fred Massey and came close to making an immediate impact when Robey’s cross-shot was running across the line, but as he tried to make sure of knocking it over the line the ball hit his heel to go back along the line for a defender to clear.

With 15 minutes to go Ivatts made no mistake as the ‘keeper fumbled his first attempt at a shot, pouncing on the loose ball to drill it through a number of defenders to give Allington the lead.

Upton went all out as they pushed for the equaliser but with man of the match Neil Weeks a rock at the heart of Allington’s defence, they found no way through and Allington came close to adding a third on the counter attack as time ran out.
