Dittisham suffered an agonisng loss in the first SDFL cup of the season, the Bill Treeby Cup, after a hard-fought battle with Roselands at Longcross on Friday evening.

Andrew Raybould's stunning long-range free-kick looked to have given Roselands the lead in the second half, but his goal was chalked off due to the presence of a second ball on the pitch.

The match finished goalless and went to penalties with Joseph Blamey, Samuel Bruckner and Joseph Kirby scoring for Dittisham and Tom Dunlop, Robert Speed and Chris Briggs on target for Roselands as the first six spot kicks were dispatched.

Thomas Rowden stepped up and endured the agony of seeing his kick sail over the bar, leaving Raybould with the chance to give Roselands the advantage.

Daniel Bastin's low strike was kept out by the outstanding Luke Pillar to end Dittisham's hopes.

Roselands were back in action yesterday afternoon, beating Broadhempston United Reserves 7-1 to take one more step towards consecutive doubles.

Dittisham's slim chance of pipping them to the title will require them to at least do the double over Roselands who they are yet to face in the league.
