Former regatta champion and British Universities winner Kendal Brown was among the Coronation Park favourites who competed for Devon at the AEGON Winter Indoor County Cup writes Tony Atkins.
The ladies' finished in third place in Group 5a at Shrewsbury, while 2012 regatta semi-finalist Alfie Flatters was in the men's squad that took second place in Group 5a at Barnstaple.
The men fought back well after losing to eventual group winners Bedfordshire 6-3 on day one, recording victories over Hereford and Worcestershire 5-4 and the Channel Islands 5-1, with Flatters beating Max Vasillou 6-2, 6-3.Outstanding for Devon in the six singles and three doubles format were Howard Scott and British 18-and-under number one Jack Findel-Hawkins, who each won four out of five matches to spearhead a top-two finish for Devon.
Meanwhile at Shrewsbury, reigning Devon ladies' titleholder and former regatta triple crown champion Kendal Brown was unbeaten in six matches and beat Mia Loney 6-4, 6-2 in the 7-2 defeat of hosts Shropshire.
Devon were beaten by Wiltshire 5-4 and North Wales 6-3, but Brown won her singles, beating respective opponents Lucy Roze 6-2, 6-1 and Welsh international Jenny Broughall 6-4, 6-3.
Also in the team was former regatta ladies' winner Kate Barthelemy, now Brown, who was unbeaten at doubles with namesake Kendal Brown.
They began their three-match unbeaten run with a super win over Holly Mowling and Cheryl Heath (Shropshire) 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 10-3.
