PLYMOUTH boosted their chances of reaching the semi-finals of the Premier Knock-Out Cup when they restricted Peterborough to a two-point lead in their home leg of the quarter-final on Tuesday evening. The Skills Group Devils put up a spirited performance at the East of England Showground before going down 46-44 and will be optimistic of pulling back those two points in the deciding leg at the St Boniface Arena tonight. Skipper Ben Barker led the way with 14 points from his five rides, being beaten only by Lasse Bjerre in heat 13. There were also race wins for Rasmus Jensen and Sam Simota, who was paid for 12 points from five starts in his first meeting since dropping to reserve. The rider replacement races for Adam Roynon produced a healthy six (paid seven) points and the whole team contributed to the team's performance – apart from Kent's Ben Morley, who failed to score after being called up as a guest replacement for Roland Benko. Peterborough: Ryan Fisher 6 (4 rides), Lewis Blackbird 4 (4), Ales Dryml 12+1 (5), Ulrich Ostergaard 9+2 (4), Lasse Bjerre 11+1 (5). Reserves: Joe Jacobs 3 (5), Dan Greenwood 1+1 (3). Plymouth: Ben Barker 14 (5), rider replacement for Adam Roynon, Kalle Katajisto 7+2 (6), Kyle Newman 6 (5), Rasmus Jensen 9+1 (5). Reserves: Sam Simota 8+4 (5), Ben Morley 0 (3). Plymouth suffered a disappointing 52-43 home defeat in their Premier League match against Berwick at the St Boniface Arena on Friday evening. The Skills Group Devils relied heavily on skipper Ben Barker and Danish youngster Rasmus Jensen, who collected seven race wins between them. But the top two lacked support. Co-promoter Ashley Taylor said: "We had too many non-scoring rides for a home team with last place in 12 of the 15 heats. We struggled to get out of the gate and were beaten by a Berwick side, who performed well as a team." Plymouth were without Adam Roynon, who was suffering from a back injury, but took eight points from his replacement rides. The normally reliable Kalle Katajisto struggled with mechanical problems in his first three races while Sam Simota was feeling unwell and failed to score from his three outings. Leading the way for Berwick was reserve Steen Jensen, who won his first four races on his way to an impressive return of 13 (paid 14) points from six rides. Plymouth: Ben Barker 18 (6 rides), Sam Simota 0 (3), Kalle Katajisto 5 (5), rider replacement for Adam Roynon, Rasmus Jensen 13 (6). Reserves: Kyle Newman 7+2 (7), Tim Webster 0 (3). Berwick: Kevin Doolan 8+1 (4), David Bellego 4+2 (4), Matej Kus 5+1 (4), Matthew Wethers 9+1 (4), Claus Vissing 10+2 (5). Reserves: Liam Carr 3 (3), Steen Jensen 13+1 (6).
