After its trip into the pond on the 15th, Dave Parnell's trolley has thoroughly dried out and with all parts in good working order, Dave put in a supercharged performance to win the midweek stableford writes John Garner.

He had a superb round, scoring 42 points, taking his handicap down two shots from 24 to 22.

In second was Andy Birss with 38, taking his handicap back down to single figures, third Mike Whitelaw 37 on countback from fourth Dave Scanlan 37, who loses one shot 27 to 26, and fifth John Thompson 36.

There were three twos, two of which were spectacular.

Paul Durrant hit one on the 18th, Mike Whitelaw's second shot on the par-four 11th went straight down the hole and Mark Collins, on the 18th, after playing badly all day, chipped in from in front of the bunker.

The shot certainly made him smile and took the sting out of his poor round.

The pin placements for the mixed Saturday circus were bordering on ridiculous and almost all the players three-putted at some stage.

Phill Brooking had a putt on the 14th which looked all but impossible, a four-putt looked inevitable and as his playing partners wished him luck he addressed the ball, made a good firm swing and in it went.

The look of shock and surprise on his face was a sight to behold.

Best of the bunch, though, was the three-putt of 'Crocodile' Stubbs on the 18th.

His drive made it on to the green and with 20ft to go a par would have secured the back nine with 19 points.

However, the three putt only made him two points so he shared the back with John Wood.

He got his nickname while on holiday with Dave and Tina Scalan in South Africa.

He was warned not to go near the water anywhere on the course as there were crocodiles about.

Undeterred by this, he went close to a pond looking for his ball, ignoring the screams of anguish; he really wanted to find it, after all it was a brand new Pro V 1...

Brian Mushens and Bob Wotton shared the front with 20 points and three players shared the win, all with 36, Brian Mushens, Bob Wotton and John Wood.

Casting his farming duties aside and playing three times in three days, by the law of averages he was bound to win sometime and so he did.

Bob Wotton shared the prize money with Joe Nicholls, both men scoring 34. In third was Dave Nicholls with 32, fourth Mike Whitelaw 32 and fifth Jack Kirby 30.
