Petroc division one

Dartmouth 6,

Isca V 0

Luckless Isca V still haven't won a game in the league yet, but it wasn't for the want of trying against Dartmouth last Saturday.

Like the Dartmouth team of old, Isca found it hard to contain the Dartmouth ladies.

Dartmouth's shape and ability to play their way out of trouble when needed, plus their skill on the ball, was something to see and their hunger to win was something that can't be taught.

Dartmouth will have a stiffer test this Saturday when Dartmouth take on Torbay. Torbay, like Dartmouth, haven't lost a game yet this season and this game will be billed not so much as the Rumble in the Jungle, but more like the Two Town Showdown.

This will test the character of the Dartmouth ladies and it will be an indication of just how far Dartmouth have come in a short space of time.

Be under no illusion, the Dartmouth ladies can do it, the only team that can beat them is themselves.

If they show the same character they have they will come away with the ultimate prize.

That is to able ot claim the title of the only team unbeaten in Petroc One this season with seven wins out of seven.

Dartmouth showed their intent against Isca V and were rewarded with a well-taken goal from Mandy Servan with just three minutes on the clock.

Mandy, picking up a cross from Lisa Hunt, made no mistake, burying the ball into the Isca net.

With Dartmouth putting on continued pressure on Isca's defence it was only going to be a matter of time before Dartmouth scored again.

It was Mandy Servan again who picked the ball up on the left wing and sprinted past two Isca players, getting into the Isca D and sliding the ball past the helpless 'keeper to make it 2-0 with just 15 minutes gone.

Not to be outdone, Dartmouth skipper, Lucy Pillar was on the score sheet next with a series of short corners.

Chloe Edwards took on the role of provider with her fourth short corner in a matter of minutes. Chloe sliding the ball to Lucy and Lucy taking the ball into Isca's D and slotting the ball past the Isca's 'keeper.

Dartmouth kept pressing and the only thing to stop them scoring again was the umpire's half-time whistle.

Dartmouth's team talk was a worrying one for the opposition as the ladies wanted more goals.

With the umpires getting the second half under way Dartmouth made a couple of changes.

Coach Matt Putt took off Chelsey Rendle, who again put another good shift in, and brought on Becca Squires, Becca playing in right-back and being a worthy contender to make that position hers in the very near future.

Off came Chloe Edwards, to be replaced by Jo Rendle, Jo making the change a seamless transition.

With Dartmouth pressing and Isca pulling back as many players as they could, it was inevitable that Dartmouth were going to score, with Sarah Barrett soon having a goal disallowed.

Jamie Rendle went close just after that and Lisa Hunt kept the defence busy, but it was Mandy Servan who got a well-deserved hatrick with 15 minutes of the second half gone.

Just after Mandy's hat-trick, Matt Putt brought on Darcy Wall, who run the Isca defence ragged. Soon after skipper Lucy Pillar picked up a loose ball and fired home to take her tally to two for the morning.

Two minutes later, Sarah Barrett took a free hit on the left hand side and passed the ball to Lucy Pillar, who got her third of the morning and rapped up a skipper's performance and a brilliant morning's work. The player-of-the-match award went to Lisa Hunt.

Mickey Wadeson, who runs a successful taxi business, kindly sponsored the match.

The players enjoyed a well-deserved drink and meal at the Old Inn, which Julliet, the landlady served the home and away teams.

Julliet was celebrating her 50th birthday but found time to host the home and away teams.

As mentioned at the top of the page, Dartmouth play Torbay at Torbay this Saturday and it would be just if Dartmouth can come away with a win.
