Petroc division one

Sidmouth and

Ottery 0

This game will have to go down as one of the strangest games that has seen for a while.

The umpire was running late because of traffic problems in Plymouth and Sidmouth refused to play the game until the second umpire arrived. All the players waited while the rain was lashing down, the umpire arrived, the game got under way and all was going well.

Dartmouth went ahead within two minutes. After being awarded a short corner, Mandy Servan (back from injury) slid the ball to Lucy Pillar and she passed to sister Hannah, who finished with a brilliant reverse stick goal.

Eight minutes later Lucy bagged a goal for herself and with Dartmouth in full control, it was all Sidmouth could do to stop the onslaught.

Dartmouth were in no mood to give an inch and Lauren Rogers got on the score sheet with a master class in hockey. Lucy took a free hit and passed to Lauren, who took the ball into the opposition’s D and flicked it past the ‘keeper.

With two minutes to go before half time, skipper for the day Jamie Rendle brought on Lisa Hunt and Alisha Wadeson and took off herself and Becca Squires.

Now comes the weird bit. With the half-time whistle blown, because of the late start, the junior football team turned up for their training session so Dartmouth had to vacate the pitch.

The hockey game was abandoned. Dartmouth may have to play a rearranged game if Sidmouth and the Petroc league committee agree on a solution. This could mean that Dartmouth could potentially lose the game after leading 3-0.

Dartmouth are hoping that the game against Exe this Saturday will go ahead unhindered.
