Dartmouth AFC 3,

Ivybridge Town reserves 1

Dartmouth continued their unbeaten start to the league season with a victory over Ivybridge reserves at Longcross.

Dartmouth brought in Ben Greeno into the starting line-up, with fellow reserve team players Rhys Morrallee and Chris Collet drafted in as substitutes.

Gary Lobb and Chick Havlin also handed starts to new signings Ryan Walton and Danny Anisas in a new-look starting 11.

The home team started the brighter of the two sides and created the first chance of the game when striker Greeno's excellent run led to Mark Forrester shooting at goal, but unfortunately for him his effort was well cleared off the line.

Ivybridge grew into the game as the half went on and a header from a corner went agonisingly wide of goalkeeper Walton's far post.

Young Dartmouth defenders Jordan Frost and Kurtley Hassall dealt well with the powerful Ivybridge front man throughout the half, allowing the midfield to create chances for Karl Baker and Greeno in attack.

Dartmouth deservedly took the lead after 20 minutes; Josh Webber did excellently to spot out Baker in the penalty box, who duly rounded the 'keeper to shoot in from a tight angle.

The same pair combined again five minutes later, but Baker crashed his shot against the post when through on goal.

The home side continued to play some great football through midfield, and after Baker set Freddie Smith free down the wing, it appeared as though Greeno would grab the second goal of the game, but Smith's cross was slightly over-hit.

It wasn't long before Dartmouth doubled their lead when good combination play between Ryan Frost and Webber saw the latter work the ball into the feet of Baker, who smashed in for his second goal.

Ivybridge pulled a goal back immediately when a ferocious drive from fully 30 yards out gave Walton no chance in the Dartmouth goal, reducing the home sides lead to one at half time.

Thirty seconds into the second half Ivybridge were unlucky not to be level; the away midfielder picked up a loose ball in the penalty area, only to be excellently thwarted by Walton.

The next goal of the game was crucially important in determining the outcome of the game, and it was Dartmouth that came close to their third goal when the excellent Webber pulled back to Baker, but his effort was well saved from close range.

Dartmouth finally but the game to bed with 10 minutes remaining; Anisas found Baker on the edge of the box and he made no mistake in dispatching his effort clinically into the top corner.

This much-needed win continues Dartmouth's momentum in the league, and they find themselves in second place after six games.

Dartmouth reserves' match against Bishopsteignton was called off due to the pitch being unplayable.

This week they travel to East Allington reserves in the league, and the firsts host Newton Abbot Spurs reserves at Longcross. Both games start at 2:30pm on Saturday.
