May has been a busy and largely successful month for Dartmouth men and ladies teams.
The month started with a victory for the men over Torquay B by 88 shots to 63.
Rink one with B Williams, J Bowden, S Ivey and skip M Hawkins were slow starters, being 14-4 down after 10 ends, but came back strongly to draw 17-17.
Rink two of R Swinden, T Deighton, P Caddy and skip P Hannaford were 23-3 up at the interval and were never troubled, winning 29-17.
Rink three of M Durston, A Hawken, M Greenland and skip W Varnam had a very tight match, only losing on the last end 17-16.
Rink four of R Lambden, T Taylor, S Shaw and D Sherlock also had a tight match, being level 12-12 after 12 ends. Then transformed, Dartmouth did not drop another shot and won 26-12.
The middle of the month saw a two-rink match home and away in the Foxlands competition against Brixham St Marys, with the result being a convincing win for Dartmouth 54-22.
Rink one of S Ivey, M Greenland, P Caddy and skip M Hawkins won 31-15.
Rink two of R Swinden, J Bowden, P Hannaford and skip D Sherlock won 23-7.
The following day saw another victory in the Mid Devon League, at home against Upton A, 104-59.
Rink one of R Swinden, T Deighton, P Hannaford and skip P Caddy led by 10 shots after 11 ends; Upton came back, but Dartmouth held on to win 26-18.
Rink two of A Hawkins, T Taylor, S Shaw and skip D Sherlock, didn't lead until the 15th end, but still claimed a 21-16 win.
Rink three of B Williams, J Bowden, S Ivey and skip M Hawkins started strongly and never looked back, winning 20-14.
Rink four of M Durston, A Hawken, M Greenland and skip W Varnam had the best performance of the day, winning by a massive 37-11.
The first away match of the season against Babbacombe B in the Mid Devon League brought the first defeat of the season 93-60.
Rink one of R Swinden, T Deighton, P Hannaford and skip P Caddy had a surprising and disappointing defeat by 27 shots to nine.
Rink two of B Brehout, J Hawkins, S Ivey and skip M Hawkins had a tight match all the way through, finishing in a 20-18 defeat.
For rink three of M Durston, A Hawkins, M Greenland and skip W Varnam, a five-shot loss on end 13 made the difference as they lost out 23-19.
Rink four of J Bowden, T Taylor, S Shaw and skip D Sherlock had a very tight battle up to tea, before Babbacombe seized the initiative and won 23-14.
A South Hams Triples League match against Kingsbridge Town resulted in a narrow defeat by 32-25.
Rink one of J Bowden, B Brehout, R Swinden had a very tight 13-11 win.
Rink two of T Taylor, S Shaw and skip S Ivey only clicked into gear on the last two ends, not enough to avert a defeat 21-12.
The ladies have had a mixed start to their South Devon League campaign. The first match against Bovey Tracey resulted in a 63-54 defeat.
Rink one of P Rowe, P Dease and skip P Lamble saw the scores level after 13 ends, but a five-shot win on the next end enabled Dartmouth to win 22-18.
Rink two of A Wilson, V Ruddle and skip G Bowden never recovered from a bad start , losing 26-10.
Rink three of A Sherlock, E French and skip J Townsend were level after nine ends before gaining a five-shot advantage on the next end, enabling a win 22-19.
The second match resulted in a win against Victoria B 55-50. Rink one of R Paynter, P Dease and skip M Weedon were well in the lead 14-2 after 13 ends; Victoria staged a comeback, but Dartmouth kept their cool to win 16-10.
Rink two of S Joy, P Lamble and skip G Bowden lost 29-20.
Rink three of C Roberts, E French and skip J Townsend had a tight match before coming good at the end to win 17-11.
