Dartmouth Golf Club

The club's Dartmoor League team were back in action on Sunday, August 11.

On this occasion they were playing their return match at home against leaders Downs Crediton.

Downs beat Dartmouth in their first leg five games to nil and were looking forward to a repeat performance, only to be thwarted by some great golf from the home team who were without their regular players.

The match went to the last putt in the last game on the 18th green, when a tricky sliding four-foot putt just slipped out of the hole for the Dartmouth players.

There was a huge cheer of relief from the Crediton team, who were looking defeat in the face. The result was honours even with a 21/2 points each draw.

Dartmouth now face Thurlestone in their last match of the season on September 8 at home.

The midweek medal was played in good weather with bright sunshine prevailing all day. Paul Brown had been celebrating the birth of his second daughter Millie Rose earlier in the week and his celebrations continued on Wednesday when he won the competition with a net 73.

Incredibly, the next four places were all on countback; second David Boyce 73, third Paul Dunkerley 73, fourth Joseph Nicholls 73, fifth Stephen Blackie 73.

The Saturday circus went ahead despite the threat of torrential rain, which did arrive with a vengeance in the afternoon.

However, it wasn't enough to put that man off, yes, you guessed it, he's won again with another score of 43 – Bob Wotton.

He played brilliantly on the front nine to score 24 and only after he got soaking wet did he put his waterproof top on to score a mere 19 on the back.

Fortunately there was another player up to the task and that was Dean Raspin, who has only played 12 games this year but feels as though his game's coming back. He scored 24 on the back to also win with 43. There were two twos from John Wood and Clive Westwood.

Vice captain Ian Metchette organised a friendly game against Stover last Sunday and although the home team lost 41/2 to 11/2, the game was played in good humour and all those that took part thoroughly enjoyed their day.

Ian Metchette and Bob Wotton halved, Bob Cottam and Stephen Blackie lost one down, Shaun Guy and Simon Wiggins lost 3-2, Martin Howlett and Bruce Blackie lost 4-2, Aiden Causeway and Steve Atkins halved and Dave Nicholls and Paul Durrant halved.
