Trying to get a few more points on the board to avoid relegation, Dartmouth's men visited Dawlish Marina on Friday, July 26, for a match in the MDL.
Alas it never went as planned, as Dartmouth only came home with a miserable two points out of a possible 14.
The rink of R Swinden, S Ivey, M Moysey and skip P Caddy kept it steady up to 10 ends and just had their noses in front 10-9.
After tea, however, they were never at the races and only scored five shots to Marina's 23 to lose by 15 shots to 32.
The rink of R Crew, T Deighton, J Townsend with skip P Hannaford never got a sniff in their match and found themselves 0-12 down at five ends and 2-22 down at 10 ends. Things got decidedly worse after tea and they lost by seven shots to 33.
The rink of J Bowden, B Brehout, T Moysey and skip J Tremlett fared little better, but were 4-15 down at 10 ends and 8-21 down at 15 ends, both teams scored eight shots apiece over the last six ends, but this gave Marina a winning score of 29-16.
The rink of M Durston, M Gregory, D Sherlock and skip W Varnam had a bit of an up and down game and found themselves 6-8 down after five ends and then 11-9 up at 10 ends.
At 15 ends they seemed to be cruising at 19-11 up, but things got a bit tense over the last six ends when they only scored three shots to Marina's 10.
However, they managed to hold on and win by the shortest of margins, 22-21.
This gave Dartmouth a much valued two points and meant the final score was Dartmouth 60 shots, Marina 115, giving Dartmouth two points and Marina 12.
On Saturday, August 3, Dartmouth's men were away at top of the table and local rivals Stoke Fleming.
The match showed why Stoke are top of the league, never giving Dartmouth a look-in as they won by 94 shots to 49 for a points total of 12-2.
On Tuesday, July 30, it was an away match for Dart/Stoke ladies in the Gallery League, this time against Paignton B, and things certainly didn't go as planned.
What should have been a formality turned into a bit of a struggle as the triple of M Burden, P Lamble and skip J Townsend found themselves 2-6 down at five ends and 7-9 at 10 ends.
They then pulled it back to be 14-13 up at 15 ends and 15-14 up at 17 ends, but then dropped two shots on the final end to lose by 15-16.
The triple of A Wilson, A Sherlock and skip V Gregory were never ahead in their game and were 11-15 down after 15 ends, managing only one shot over the last three ends to lose by 12-18.
The triple of P Dease, M Weeden and skip C Wotton never looked back in their game and were well ahead, 20-9 up at 15 ends.
They then scored four shots to Paignton's three to run out easy winners by 24 shots to 12.
This score gave Dart/Stoke a shot score of 51-46 and and a points total of six to four.
