Petroc Division One

Dartmouth 5,

Dart seconds 2

Dartmouth promised they would give a goalfest and they certainly delivered.

If it wasn’t for the Dart ‘keeper, the score would have been a lot worse for the opposition, as the Darts ‘keeper was on top of her game and saved at least eight goal-bound efforts.

Dartmouth gave their best performance this season with some mouth-watering hockey.

The midfield played their way out of defence and played some intricate passing which helped the wing-backs to push up and put pressure on the opposition’s wingers.

Dartmouth’s back three of Jamie Rendle, Hannah Pillar and Darcey Wall shored up the defence and for most of the match left Ellie Malley’s job nonexistent.

Ellie Langman started the game with intent when her effort was saved in the first three minutes, but from then on it was all Dartmouth.

Lucy Pillar, Sarah Barrett, Lauren Rogers, Sam Webb, and Mandy (mouse) Servan also all went close, but Sarah Barrett eased Dartmouth’s nerves with a well-taken goal with 23 minutes gone.

Sarah, picking the ball up from deep, played a neat one-two with Lucy Pillar before planting the ball beyond the Dart ‘keeper.

With all Dartmouth’s dominance the score remained at one goal to nil for the first half.

The half-time team talk was relaxed and positive. Lisa Hunt deciding to keep the team as it was and some encouraging words from Hunt to set the Dartmouth ladies right for the second half.

Ten minutes into the second half and Dartmouth were at it again.

Lauren Rogers picked the pocket of a Dart player deep in Dartmouth’s half, taking the ball up to the Darts third.

She laid the ball to Sarah Barrett, who dribbled past a couple of Dart players and slotted the ball into the net for goal number two.

Two minutes later Dart scored against the run of play, but Dartmouth responded straight away and within 30 seconds had their two-goal cushion back.

Lucy Pillar had her shot saved after good work from Alix Vincent in the build-up, but Sarah Barrett picked up the rebound and got her first hat-trick for the season to put Dartmouth well and truly in the driving seat.

Four minutes later Lucy Pillar finally got her goal. Hannah Pillar this time set up Ellie Langman with a beautiful weighted ball, Ellie sprinted down the left wing and crossed the ball into the opposition’s D, where Alix Vincent took the shot.

Once again the Dart ‘keeper saved the shot, but this time it rebounded right into the path of Lucy Pillar and the Dartmouth assassin got her goal and goal number four for Dartmouth.

Goal number five was made by Jamie Rendle, normally Dartmouth’s right wing but filling in at right-back.

She picked the ball up from deep, took it into the opposition’s D and crossed for Charley Langman who was unmarked on the far post to tap in for one of the easiest goals she will score.

Just on the stroke of full time Dart scored again, but it was Dartmouth’s day and a brilliant result for the Dartmouth ladies.

Lauren Rogers was named supporters’ player of the match. Ian Carter picked Lauren who had one of her best game’s in a Dartmouth shirt so far. Lauren also shared player’s player of the match with Sarah Barrett.

After the game, Steve and Juliet Freeman of The Old Inn served both teams some much-needed sustenance. The match was kindly sponsored by The Cove, of Hauley Road.

Dartmouth take on Plymouth Marjons thirds in a Devon Trophy game, 1pm this Saturday at Kingsbridge Community College.
