Last Sunday saw the Ship in Dock and The Dartmouth Arms commence battle over 22 yards of carefully tendered turf for the final top four league placement and the right to play in the finals day.

The wicket had a healthy spread of grass and the SID decided to bowl first after winning the toss.

The DA openers Andy Jessop and Marcus Copeman were untroubled on such a green strip and with the sun shining brightly they were racing along at a rate of eight an over.

Both men reached their 25 with ease and by the time the first wicket fell, Jamie Bayley caught at mid wicket in the eighth over, the DA had already amassed 70 runs.

Ed Rahman and Saif Rahman kept the scoreboard ticking, both playing some eye catching strokes, with the pick being a superb back foot cover drive for four from Ed Rahman.

This brilliant partnership and a late cameo from Graham Bayley and Dan Jackson took the DA to a total 152-2 after their 20 overs.

The momentum never left the DA, Jessop unleashing his bouncer on Shuman Ahmed, who didn't play it convincingly and was caught at short leg.

Monty Halls did his best to wrestle the game back; after a slow start Halls pounced on anything short and notched up an important 25 for his team.

By the time of the 13th over the game was very well balanced and both teams would have fancied gaining a top four finish.

The bowling display from Australian Jamie Bayley not only swung the game back for the DA, but also probably put him in contention to play the third test.

Philip Lyons impressed on debut, taking two wickets for a tidy nine runs, and with the impeccable Saif Rahman bowling to five slips and two gullies at the other end, the DA wrapped things up, restricting the SID to 117-7.

Graham Bayley was named man of the match for his excellent fielding display.

Both teams would like to thank all the spectators who came to watch, the umpires and Jim Brent for all their hard work.
