New Year's Day saw the captains' drive-in held in really bad weather writes John Garner.
The new captains, men's Kevin Eighteen, ladies' Tina Scanlan, seniors' Mike Whitelaw and juniors' Stuart Harris all missed the green with their drives, but Kevin Eighteen was the closest.
A hundred or so members turned out on the day to give their support to the club and the new captains.
The newly installed swear box was put through its paces by the new men's captain.
As a result of his hard work during his captaincy, the outgoing captain Ian Metchette presented Rowcroft Hospice with a handsome cheque.
The weather wasn't much better for the Wednesday circus, but that didn't stop 17 hardy golfers from competing.
Mike Griffiths played well on the front to win with 19 points, and the back nine was shared between Andy Birss, Barry O'Shea, and Paul Brown, each losing a shot for a fiver; not so bad for Andy Birss, though, as he had the only two!
Sid Davis won overall with 33, reflecting just how difficult conditions were.
On Saturday the third round of the winter knock-out was played with a lot of ifs and/or buts on offer...
The best of the bunch was that of Paul Dunkerly, whose partner Lea Humphries was away on holiday, meaning he had to take on the pair of Rob Waye and Kevin Hoare on his own.
Mentally one down on the first, Paul stuck to his guns and played really well to take his opposition to the 19th hole, where he eventually lost.
Hard for him to swallow was the fact that even if he had won, he would not have gone through as he had lost his previous round.
Going through to the next round will be Ian Metchette and Dave Nicholls, Kevin Hoare and Rob Waye, Steve Owen and Graham White and Jack Kirby and Joe Nicholls.
For those not in the winter knock-out, a small circus was organised by Chris Mushens, who shared the front nine with Ray Coles on 14.
Winning the back nine on his own and overall with 27 was the cheery-faced Mike Griffiths.
