Dart Gig Club held their end of season dinner at DARC last Friday.
Members gathered to enjoy an excellent curry supper, and to enjoy dancing instead of rowing for a change!
The club have had a busy year – starting with the Three Rivers back in March, then the World Pilot Gig Championships – where the men’s vets came an amazing third.
This result gave the men’s squad great encouragement.
Racing continued through the summer and ended with the club’s own lay-up race in October.
The ladies’ section has had a squad of 20 or more racing during the year, with reasonable results.
The ladies’ A came 17th at the Newquay County Gig Championships – the best ladies’ placing for several years.
The successes have inspired the rowers for the upcoming 2016 season.
The club chairman, Liz Moseley, presented awards to the following: ladies’ rower of the year – Karen Harvey, most improved lady rower – Katie Lillington, men’s rower of the year – the men’s A/
Vets crew, most improved male rower – Adrian Bailey, cox of the year – Paul Kunert and Clare Thorp, club trophy – Kevin Pyne and above and beyond the call of duty – Peta Chivers.
The club is hoping to get a new squad of juniors afloat as soon as the weather allows.
The club welcomes new rowers of all ages and abilities. Anyone interested can contact Liz Moseley on 07973 402803.
