Once again the weather was so bad that the Wednesday circus had to be cancelled.

Three days later, however, brilliant sunshine greeted the players for the re-arranged 666 competition and all enjoyed what was a dry, cold day.

With only one score to count on the first six holes, the winning trio of John Garner, Dave Nicholls and Chris Eddowes got off to a very shaky start, scoring only one point on the first.

Their momentum picked up on the par-three seventh when Garner and Nichols both parred it with shots to score a maximum six points, followed by them both scoring birdies on the par-five eighth for a further eight points.

Chris Eddowes birdied the par-five ninth along with a Nicholls par that gave them a front nine score of 34 points.

The usual ups and downs that are so familiar with the back nine happened and it came down to Chris Eddowes' last putt on the 18th to earn one point.

He held his nerve to sink it for the team to score 44 points on the back and win the competition by one point with 78.

In second place with 77 were Ron Thomas Gourd, Paul Dunkerley, and Joe Nichols.

There was only one two, netting the team of Stuart Harris, Ian Metchette, and Jack Kirby £24.

The first round of the Daily Mail Foursomes was played on Sunday.

Always a difficult format to play as it's alternate shots, perhaps Dartmouth has found a new successfull pairing in Phillip Brooking and Rob Knight as they won with a good score of 71.5.

In second was Kevin Eighteen and Ian Metchette 74.5, third Dave Brooking and Chris Eddowes 77, fourth Brian Mushens and Dean Raspin 78.5, fifth Jack Kirby and Kevin Mathews 86, sixth Alan Goldthorpe and Geoff Penhale 86.5.
