Monday morning saw the seniors at Dartmouth Golf Club play in a four ball better ball pairs competition, played off three-quarter handicaps.

With the sun finally shining and the recent high winds abating, everyone was hopeful of playing a good round.

In all 32 players took part, but it was the club's senior captain, Geoffrey Jewell, and his regular partner Colin Cooper, who took full advantage of the conditions to record a magnificent stableford score of 41 points.

Runners-up, after a countback over the last 12 holes and with a score of 37 points, were Michael Whitelaw and his partner Martin Howlett – just displacing the unlucky pairing of George Reeve and David Giles, who also scored 37 points.

There was only one two recorded on the day – this was achieved on the short par three fifth hole and again went to Geoffrey Jewell.

Next Monday sees the seniors lining up to do battle in an individual stableford competition, where once again fingers will be crossed for some more fine weather.
