IT WAS extremely hot as Stoke Fleming BC played host to Chudleigh in the latest Mid-Devon League Two match and they hoped to replicate their away win from earlier in the season.

Rink One, with Simon Bennett at the helm, went back-and-forth and, after dropping an almighty seven shots on the seventh end, Stoke came back to make steady progress and run out 23-17 winners.

John Haynes, playing at number one for Mike Hynes, had his usually excellent game and enabled the rink to win by 24-14. Paul Lobbs’ four had a much closer contest but a late spurt saw them safely home.

Rink four, skipped by Andy Pound, had a much easier ride, winning comfortably 24-9.

All in all, this was a strong result that keeps Stoke placed second. Prior to the match, members gathered around a new seat presented to the club by the family of Herbert Verity who had been club treasurer for many years.
