Under cool conditions, the 2013 Dartmouth Twenty20 League finals day got under way with a few football club players looking like their pre-match training the night before went on an hour too long.

The first semi-final saw the Dartmouth Arms take on three-time winners Dartmouth AFC.

The DA felt beforehand that they had a chance, but lost the toss and the football club chose to bat.

DA took the early wicket of Darren Goss, but then in came the Holmes brothers, who both scored 25, followed by Dan Griffiths with an excellent 25 not out, and the DA were soon under pressure.

Marcus Copeman was excellent in the field, but with two dropped catches from his spell and Mr extras playing a terrible game for the DA, the football club posted 158.

The DA didn't get the start they wanted, with Simon Geen completing a dismal day being caught for a golden duck. Marcus Copeman, DA's most improved player, got caught for six, before Jamie Bayley, captain for the day, managed 20.

This was followed by an excellent 25 not out from Ed Rahman and a few quick boundaries from Saif, but the DA soon realised it was not going to be their day and were all out for 93.

The sun was out for the 2pm second semi-final between Royal Mail and the Dolphin Inn. RM chose to bat but an excellent first few overs by Dolphin soon had RM under pressure.

Kevin Matthews managed to amass 22, but their total of 90 didn't look enough.

The Dolphin got off to a flying start with Frank Nevens and Nick Shillabeer both scoring 25, and even with the Post Office fielding 12 players for a while, they soon were up against it, Dolphin soon reaching 91 off 15 overs.

The Post Office captain, with refreshing frankness, explained: 'We were all rubbish and we were well beaten'.

This left the final game of the 2013 season under bright skies and an excellent crowd.

Les the Fez was wowing the children with his balloon skills and Wendy Jones was giving McDonalds a run for their money with superb burgers.

The football club chose to bat and with D Goss and Simon Holmes both getting out early for once, they all of a sudden looked like a normal team.

However, they confidently managed to steady things with a superb 25 from Dan Griffiths and posted a target of 117 despite excellent bowling from Miguel and Pete Goss, leaping around like a gazelle.

The Dolphin didn't get the start they wanted with Neil Prettyjohns taking the wicket of Frank Nevens and Nick Shillabeer, both for one.

This brought in Dean Martyn, who managed 25 not out, providing some respite for the Dolphin, but with Simon Holmes taking a hat-trick at the end, the victory wet to the football club.

It was a fitting end to an excellent season, with Dartmouth AFC retaining the trophy for the fourth successive year.
