ALEXANDER MATTHEWS, of Towns Lane, Loddiswell, writes:

Martin Ranwell, in his letter to the paper, questions the efficacy of wind power. He disputes the incredible claim, incredible to him, that wind turbines produce an average 66 per cent of their efficiency. He says that many people are not taken in by this. However, more people believe that wind farms are viable and provide efficient energy. Wind farms are here to stay.

The government has approved, for example, two major wind farm projects, which will generate enough power for almost a million homes. 288 turbines on the Triton Knoll scheme will generate 3.6 billion in investment, create around 1,130 jobs and provide power for the equivalent of 820,000 homes. Wind farms are everywhere in Europe and more and more are being constructed in the UK, wherever planning permission can be obtained.

My only dispute with wind farms is that they should not be built too near housing. I think Mr. Ranwell needs to realise that more experts seem to believe in the efficiency of wind farms than experts who don't.
