CLLR Mike Trevorrow, of Kingswear Parish Council, writes: Cllr Jan Henshall, of Kingswear Parish Council, has had much publicity of late as readers of this paper will know. After the very unpleasant and confrontational meetings which the parish council has endured recently, your reporter Karen Perrow deserves real credit for representing the situation fairly, and with great clarity. She did not sensationalise a difficult situation but did manage to convey the seriousness of the situation. I am also a parish councillor in Kingswear and would like to speak out in support of some of my fellow councillors who have been vilified by Cllr Henshall in her comments. She is willing to offer a confrontational style towards others but does not like it when it is returned in kind. I do not support bullying behaviour, indeed I have long been a severe critic of the Gordon Ramsay/Alan Sugar style of management as inhuman and degrading, but the 'bullying' about which Cllr Henshall complains needs to be taken in context. It was people at the end of their tether with her criticism and bitterness who erupted in anger. They perhaps should not have done this, but if the Cllr Henshalls of this world do not like that behaviour, perhaps they ought to reflect on their own treatment of others. We can only hope that the unpleasantness which Kingswear councillors have recently experienced will lead to better relationships in the future, where empathy with others becomes forefront, and the results of this 'battle' lead to a lasting peace.
