Kevin Pyne, of Lake Street, Dartmouth, writes:
With regard to the proposed amities hut heist by South Hams Council, let's first sort out who owns the land that the Royal Avenue Gardens stands on because, as I understand it, the land held in common by the people of Dartmouth – as is the land currently used as a car park adjacent with Mayors Avenue.
It backs onto the Boatfloat which was given to the people of Dartmouth as a compensatory measure when it was decided to build the embankment and take away what were historically centuries of private moorings all of which, with hindsight, was a great shame .
If I am wrong then perhaps South Hams Council can come up with the documentation.
Royal Avenue Gardens is a beautful park designed in the days when South Hams Council had councillors who cared for the town and fought for it.
Why does South Hams Council need to penny pinch over a little tea hut when it has taken millions from the Lower Ferry?
